First I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to this project of turning Chromebooks to other operating system. Pretty amazing that there are people out there capable of this.
I am not a “power” computer user, but after owning the 713 for 4 years I thought a change might be a good idea. I have no good knowledge of Linux however I am good at following directions. Following step by step MrChromebox site I was able to flash the firmware, and with the help of this site I put Fedora as the OS. I was a little nervous the whole time but everything went smoothly.
Most everything worked out of the box, just needed audio drivers and a Chromebook keyboard mapping. Dont use this as a tablet so didn’t try anything related to that.
After a few days I went back to ChromeOS simply because the fan was running all the time with Linux. Tried Chrultrabook Tools but didn’t work well.
Going back to ChromeOS was fairly simple as well, everything went smoothly. I’m not sure what ChromeOS does but there is no fan noise unless I have alot going on.
It was a fun experiment and I might revisit it down the line.
