Hi, I want install Linux OS and replace ChromeOS, can you tell me how to do this, and can I skip removing WP step?
Yeah you don’t need to remove wp. You can boot linux os by installing “legacy boot mode” from the script of MRCHROMEBOX.TECH. See if your device supported Supported Devices | MrChromebox.tech . then follow the steps given here Firmware Utility Script | MrChromebox.tech . Make a bootable usb of your os of choice and ta da! you will have a chromebook powered with linux.
Brya isn`t supported, but I think about create second partition and flash linux, can I make this without using any scripts?
I can’t tell you that but you can maybe with “crostini”. But the method is old. Your device should support, mr.chromebox may answer it.
Ok, my Acer have Omnigul, which is support RW_Legacy Mode, so next question which OS to install will be the best (please don`t write Windows because is s***t).
Debian distributions tend to have the best support if you want something that’s a little more user friendly. I would avoid Ubuntu and derivatives because it can be troublesome and it means that chrultrabook devs don’t like working with it. Check the audio script supported distributions; this should give you an idea of what distributions are supported. You should be able to find a list of supported distros in the chrultrabook docs as well.
Thanks, but I read that google components will make brick device when I will try flash linux as second OS … this script will install custom components to make flash a linux without issues?
It may but the chance is very low I haven’t experienced bricking . Make sure you have a stable internet connection and follow all the step strictly.
Yes, you can!!!
However its a less well documented method.
You can write the .bin to a flash drive with rpi-imager, dd, rufus, balenaetcher, etc, and boot that (using ctrl + u) with another drive containing your linux distro plugged in. Make sure you enable usb boot, I think the command is crossystem dev_boot_usb=1
You don’t need any custom firmware and can dual boot by keeping the linux bootloader on a usb. However I recommend trying RW_Legacy first.
