I bought an Acer C740 at a yard sale for $5. Got home and tried to figure out how to get rid of ChromeOS, which was outdated anyway. Found MrChromeBox, took out the read-only internal screw, followed all the other instructions, and here I am this morning typing on that now-Mint Linux-ized laptop.
Since then, while working at a local homeless shelter as a tech guy, I discovered a box of Acer C730 machines. Ten of them. And yes, I did. All ten to Linux. I also ended up finding one more for me, a Lenovo IdeaPad 3. Unlike my original Acer C740 its storage is soldered in, but it does have 64g worth (unlike the Acer which I switched out the 16g for a 128g $20 ebay SSD for).
Anyway, that’s 12 now-good machines. Rescued from oblivion. And it was fun. Thank you.
