Been doing various IT things since 1977 when I worked as a part-time computer operator for a small college while a student there.
Started programming professionally in 1978 on mini-computers. started working on mainframe computers in 1980, and on micro-computers/PCs in 1983, then worked on IBM mainframes and PCs from 1984 through 2003. Since then have done various things with PCs, networking, data storage, and consulting. Now mostly retired, but still help family and friends with their tech stuff.

Started doing chromebox conversions in 2025 – with Asus TEEMO Intel Core i7 chromeboxes as an affordable small footprint windows based media platform, replacing a number of PCs that were becoming obsolete (2008 Core 2 quad architecture).

Philosophically, I am very invested in the re-use and right-to-repair movement. I do my best to repair, repurpose and reuse rather than buy new – as a way to reduce my and others impact on the planet – added bonuses are cost savings and the increased knowledge that comes with these efforts. These efforts have expanded far beyond the typical IT/PC domain, to include large and small appliances, electronics repair, automotive, espresso equipment, HVAC, furniture repair, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, remodeling, welding and more.

I also firmly believe and adhere to the principle that we are on the planet primarily to help each other, and that in all my transactions both parties will benefit. I abhor the idea that there must be winners and losers in life and transactions – so-called “zero-sum” thinking. Instead I strive to find mutually beneficial ways of living and doing business – “win-win” thinking.
