I’m trying to run the firmware-util script on my Acer Chromebook Spin 13 (AKALI 360), so I can install a linux distribution. I did some research on mrchromebox and came to the conclusion I should be able to. Using the “battery method” to dissable WP.
I tried putting the device in developer mode, and was able to. However not sure how proceed, switched developer mode off (still regret this). Afterwards, when sure how to proceed I tried to do so again by using the refresh and option keys. Now receiving the chromeOS missing screen. When removing the battery and trying again, same result. When booting normaly get the chromos setup screen and am able to set it up. Tried this and it worked.
I made a recovery usb using the chrome utility. Ran that successfully, but still when trying to acces the boot menu run in to the same screen. Any help or advice how to enable developer mode at this point?
First, leave the battery connected until you’re actually in developer mode. Also, you can’t use an external keyboard for any of this.
Not sure what option keys are - press ESC + REFRESH + POWER (just tap them, don’t hold them down). Power will be on the side of your unit if its a 360 unit.
Confirm all of these keys work before attempting.
If the CB just keeps rebooting, try holding the recovery keys down for 3-5 seconds. If you hold them down too long it will sometimes shut down or take you to the ‘ChromeOS is missing or damaged’ screen
That should take you to the ‘Please insert a recovery USB stick or SD card’ screen
Press Ctrl + D, then enter on the next screen. Once developer mode is enabled, press Ctrl + D again to continue booting into developer mode
