Asus Chromebox 4 (Duffy) – RAM stuck at 2667 MHz instead of 3200 MHz

Hi everyone,

I’m running an Asus Chromebox 4 (Duffy) with 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz SODIMM RAM, but Windows Task Manager shows the memory speed is only 2667 MHz.

Details:

  • Device: Asus Chromebox 4 (Duffy)

  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz (2x8GB)

  • Reported speed: 2667 MHz

  • Slots used: 2 of 2

  • No visible XMP option in BIOS

I’m wondering:

  1. Is the RAM speed limited by the CPU or chipset on the Chromebox 4?

  2. Does Duffy/coreboot support XMP at all?

  3. Is there any way (BIOS mod, coreboot setting, etc.) to run the RAM at full 3200 MHz?

  4. Or is 2667 MHz the hard limit for this platform?

I’d like to get the full 3200 MHz if possible, but I’m not sure if this is just a platform limitation.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

the fastest speed for socketed DIMMS supported by that SoC (Cometlake-U) is DDR4-2667

Thank you for the detailed clarification. I appreciate the work you do for the community!
