Acer Chromebook Vero 514 (VOLMAR) - Request Retail HWID

System Details

  • Device: VOLMAR (Acer Chromebook Vero 514)

  • OS: ChromeOS

  • Firmware Type: Stock ChromeOS with RW_LEGACY

  • Firmware Version: Google_Volmar.14505.177.0 (07/22/2022)

  • Internal storage type: NVMe

Summary of the Issue
My Acer Vero 514 (VOLMAR) is stuck on firmware version 106 and cannot update normally. I want to use MrChromebox’s Firmware Utility Script Option 4 to change the HWID to a retail version, so I can use the official ChromeOS recovery tool to flash a newer stable version.

Current HWID: VOLMAR-PGRU B2B-C4C-B2B-A3I-H64

Steps Already Completed

  • Firmware write protection disabled (Fw WP: Disabled)

  • Confirmed Cr50 (not Ti50)

  • Stock firmware backed up (32MB)

  • MrChromebox script works correctly (RW_LEGACY and UEFI Full ROM available)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Run MrChromebox Firmware Utility Script

  2. Select Option 4 (Set Hardware ID)

  3. Need a valid retail HWID to proceed

Expected Behavior
After setting a matching retail HWID, the official ChromeOS recovery tool should recognize the device and allow flashing the latest stable ChromeOS version.

just perform a USB recovery using the latest image. There’s no reason to think your HWID requires modification.

Hi MrChromebox,

Thank you for the suggestion. I already tried the brya recovery image, but it shows “no valid image detected”. The device displays the board name as VOLMAR-PGRU, which doesn’t match the retail recovery image.

This is why I was looking for a retail HWID — the PGRU variant seems to be rejected by the standard recovery image.

Is there any way to work around this, or would flashing UEFI Full ROM be the better path forward?

Thanks again!
